Today we continued our clown and circus workshops in the Palestinian refugee camp Borj el-barasjni and finished the day with selecting the 15 who will become the Circuna Circus group. Most of the participants are new to circus but just like the rest of the world the circus bug is spreding. Their are five crazy street acrobats from a camp in the south and a clown trainer from the now destroyed camps in the north. Today the people from the north didn’t show up because they had to go look for new houses. They have been living in local schools since their village was destroyed last summer but the schools need the spaces back. It really feels like we are living in modern history, Marie Louise was in the International Artist course I hold at the National Art schools every summer that was supposed to come to Lebanon but two days before their plane left, Israel invaded Lebanon again and they ended up going to Jordania. So now here we are working with the artists who we could not meet last summer.
It feels great having a project which focuses on the local artist skills instead of just bringing swedish artists to tour.
